Olive Leaf  (Olea europa) Often referred to as the tree of life:

  Has the ability to stop herpes virus replication and directly penetrate infected cells.

  Has the capacity to contain herpes herpes viral infection.  It does this by 'inactivating' the virus and by preventing viral shedding, budding or assembly at the cell membrane.

  An ability to interfere with critical amino acid production required by viruses such as herpes.

  An ability to neutralize the production of 'protease' and 'reverse transcriptase'. These are enzymes that are required by "retroviruses" in order to alter the RNA of a healthy cell.

  Stimulates phagocytosis (an immune system response in which cells ingest harmful microorganisms and foreign matter, such as virus infected cells).

  A component of olive leaf extract called 'calcium elenolate' is lethal to a number of viruses, including the Herpes simplex virus (HSV).

Andrographis (Andrographis paniculata) A herb used in eastern cultures for thousands of years:

  Inhibits herpes virus activity in vitro

  Improves the level of T-helper cells (cells that participate in cell-mediated immunity and are essential for controlling viruses)

  Increases white cell phagocytosis, a process in which cells "eat up" bacteria and other foreign invaders

  Supports and enhances the immune system

  Is even more effective when combined with immune stimulators, such as the herb Echinacea, and zinc and vitamin C (which are contained in our Combined Lysine Formula)

Echinacea (Echinacea purpurea) One of the most widely used herbs in the world:

  Stimulates the production of white blood cells, in particular, "natural killer cells" and "macrophages" which fight off infection and destroy contaminated cells.

  Increases levels of "properdin".  This is a protein in the body that helps the immune system destroy viruses.

  Assists the body in the formulation of "interferon". A compound which blocks replication of virus proteins.

Your immune system is your body's evolved weapon for defending itself against micro-pathogens (such as the herpes and cold sore virus). 

Although your immune system may not be able to completely eliminate herpes it is your body's first line of defense in healing outbreaks, suppressing the virus and controlling recurrences. 

If a person experiences very mild outbreaks (or no outbreaks at all) it is largely contributed to their immune system and its ability to deal with the virus.
